Fueled by bourbon and nog, last night Playlist By Committee slipped into the spirit of the holiday and formulated a playlist encompassing not just the favorite Christmas songs by the usual committee, but the entire Idle Time family.
Now, our Holybee may be the Christmas music king, annually tweaking a Christmas mixtape for as long as I’ve known him (15 years!), compiling all the essentials including standards and original yuletide tunes. Alas, his mix is not readily available to stream.
However, the Hi-Fi Fifteen have submitted a wonderful mix consisting of Christmas tunes. With the Old Guard weighing in on the X-mas music conversation, you may think that yet another Idle Time Christmas related mixtape is unnecessary, but frivolity is a tenant of our organization, and even more, it is one of the things that makes the holidays so delightful.
Though some of the faculty are physically together because they are literal family, our figurative family is spread across the West Coast. Getting us all together is a rare feat, but what these mixes ultimately achieve is an assembly of sorts. Each song has a small smudge, a distinct fingerprint of the Idler who chose it, and in this way, through sharing our favorite seasonal music, we kind of get to be a part of each other’s Christmas.
Today, presents will be opened, cookies will be baked, basketball will be watched, and families will gather together, and they will need a soundtrack. I hope PBC and Idle Time can provide that soundtrack, and in our way add to the cheer and be a part of your gathering.
Cheers!
