31 DAYS OF HORROR: DAY 21 – BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN

I’ve decided to subject myself to 31 days of horror films for the month of October. It will be a mix of rewatching stuff I haven’t seen in a while and brand new things. Day 21:

BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1935) – dir. James Whale

I did not remembering like this movie as much when I first saw it long ago but my re-watch proved to me that sometimes age helps the film. I think this movie is the right amount of silly and spooky that Whale is so good at all. The Creature’s quest in this movie feels all the more sad and Karloff gets so much more mileage out of it this go around. It also helps that Elsa Lanchester fucking rules as the Bride. I do think I like it a lot more than the original and recommend it to any horror fan.
