It’s the End of the World as We Know It…..

…and I feel fucking great! 2012 is shaping up to be one apocalyptically fantastic year for dorks to be alive – including myself.

Movies, Comics, Television, Internets, all have something huge descending on us in the following 12 months – like a 170 kilometer asteroid heading straight for the Yucatan peninsula unleashing a tsunami of radness!

You’ll notice there is one genre missing from my list above there…. music!!! 2012 looks to be one of the shittest years ever for music fans. Well, I mean music fans that have good taste. If you like: Insane Clown Posse, Brett Michaels, Linkin Park, Matchbox 20, No Doubt, The Offspring, and Wilson Phillips then hey, things are gonna be okay pal. BUT, for the rest of us 2012 is going to be a tough one to get through.

There are only a few releases I’m actually looking forward too: The Shins, The xx,  The Wrens, Damien Jurado, and maybe Spiritualized (if I’m in the right mood). Looks like it’s time to break out the back catalog of The Band again and head up Cripple Creek for a few months.

And while I’m dipping a doughnut in my tea, I’ll be watching some great television in the form of Breaking Bad! This show is without a doubt the most well written, acted, and directed series on TV today. The final season, five, starts up this year and I for one cannot wait to see what becomes of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. Two of the most honest, caring, and completely fucking morally corrupt men you will ever fall in love with. If you haven’t seen this show, do yourself a favor and Netflix the hell of it. Get caught up on the previous four seasons. I promise you, you will FLY through those seasons in one or two weeks. Don’t be a bitch yo!

In the world of comic books 2012 looks to be the year Marvel regains control after DC busted its nut in 2011 with the NEW 52. A lot of great things came out of the New 52: Scott Snyder’s Batman and Swamp Thing, Jeff Lemire’s Animal Man, J.H Williams’s Batwoman, and a few other outstanding titles, but heading into the second year I see a lot of the steam running out of the 52 and soon titles are going to be dropping faster then Catwoman’s panties.

Enter Marvel’s Avengers vs X-Men. Now I’ll be honest, I’ve always been a DC guy and have really only followed the Marvel Universe from afar, but in 2011 I dipped my toe in the water, and the water felt nice. Titles like Uncanny X-Force, Wolverine and the X-Men, and Daredevil have brought me into the Marvel Bullpen, anxiously awaiting my “No Prize.” I’ve even given Marvel’s Ultimate Universe a spin and found that Ultimate Spider-Man is one of the best things ever. With titles like these and stellar talent delivering the goods month after month, 2012 is the year of Marvel!

Speaking of Marvel, The Avengers movie opens this year and looks to be a blast with Iron Man and The Hulk and Thor all jockeying for screen time. Is this the first time heroes of this caliber have been in one movie together? I kinda think it is. And even though Marvel looks to have a tremendous year, DC has an ace up their sleeve in the form of The Dark Knight Rises. I’m going on record now and saying TDKR will be the top movie of the year and MAY even surpass the last installments domestic gross of $533,345,358 (maybe).

And then there is The Hobbit.
