Only one new premiere this week, but it’s a beaut. James Robinson set the stage for his foray into Marvel’s mystic catalog a few weeks ago with The Uncanny Avengers Annual #1, and this week he is joined by Vanesa Del Rey and Jordie Bellaire to debut the first solo Scarlet Witch series.
But there are plenty of other ANAD goodies to keep you warm on a chilly winter evening. Don’t know about you, but this is my absolute favorite time of year to buy comics, read comics, and give comics. Which separates this from the rest of the year when I’m far less giving. Speaking of… we’re long overdue for a Holiday Gift Guide, aren’t we? I’ll assemble the team.
In the meantime, stock your own stocking with these four-color goodies.

Mandarin has a sweet tie. I like the focus on the personal relationship in this book. The Hawkeyes’ relationship is inexplicably complicated, but I like the “real” nature of their dialogue. The art seems better suited for a more natural world, versus a super hero one, but I still enjoy it. I also like how the ability to save the world depends on the Hawkeyes’ ability to grow as people and reconcile. Nice high concept stuff from a usually lame character that nobody likes.* – RF
*RF doesn’t mean it. He was just trying to get my goat, as they say. But after decades of “Hawkeye is your favorite superhero?!” ridicule, my goat is long gone.
