In 2012, founding Idle Timer MI, AKA The Holy Bee of Ephesus, famously gave up ranking and reviewing current musical releases. When we revived the List in 2015, however, I reached out to see if he would come out of retirement to share thoughts on a few selected records.
Happily, he agreed.
There were six albums that he had acquired of his own accord during the year.
Alabama Shakes – Sound and Color
The Decemberists – What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World
Father John Misty – I Love You, Honeybear
Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp a Butterfly
Kurt Vile – I B’lieve I’m Going Down
Tame Impala – Currents
Then he chose six more “by using a complicated algorithm and a 20-sided die.”
Deerhunter – Fading Frontier
Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment – Surf
Grimes – Art Angels
Lockah – It Gets More Cloudy
Miami Horror – All Possible Futures
Fred Thomas – All Are Saved
Finally, he concluded with five more in order to gain a “feel for what people are jamming to in 2015…”
Beirut – No No No
Hiatus Kaiyote – Choose Your Weapon
Archy Marshall – A New Place 2 Drown
Moonbabies – Wizards on the Beach
Oneohtrix Point Never – Garden of Delete
