Fred Thomas – All Are Saved
MMDG has assaulted me on previous Idle Time lists with Pitchfork darlings Saturday Looks Good To Me. Imagine my delight when the 20-sided die told me to listen to the solo joint from SLGTM’s frontman. The experience wasn’t entirely oppressive, and in fact had some pleasant moments, but Mr. Thomas would probably be better off writing for someone else. His lyrics are interesting and often profound, but his voice is utterly charmless. And every few songs he breaks out the whole “talk-singing” thing which annoys the living shit out of me. If you can’t come up with a vocal melody line, leave it on the outtake reel or save it for the poetry slam.
