2015 Tune Tourney’s Elite Eight: California

California belongs to the underdogs.

While most other regions panned out relative to expectations, California threw us a couple curves. Both Chromatics and Kendrick Lamar, the 1 and 2 seeds respectively, didn’t even make it out of the second round. Pop icons Katy Perry and Frank Ocean went home early too. Both remaining CA bands are lower seeds than any other remaining contestant in the Elite 8, with Best Coast as a 6 seed and the Y Axes the lowest seed at 9. Most impressive!

The Elite 8 tees up the age-old NorCal vs. SoCal matchup. The Y Axes, representing NorCal by way of San Francisco, have fought tooth and nail through the tournament, taking down Ariel Pink, Classixx, and #1 seed Chromatics. They will face off against LA’s Best Coast, who have impressive victories over Cathedrals, Local Natives, and TV Girl.
