The last, but certainly not the least, of the four regions, Oceania’s Sweet Sixteen matchups have progressed rather predictably, with both the 1 and 2 seeds advancing to the third round.
Mr. Faker convincingly took down touring EDM circus Empire of the Sun in the second round but faces stiff competition in Cut Copy, who have been eviscerating their competition [does quick Google check to confirm John Calipari is not a member of Cut Copy]. We were somewhat hoping for a super-meta Sweet Sixteen match up between Chet Faker’s own track and his featured vocal on Flume’s “Drop the Game,” but this will suffice.
We were pleasantly surprised to see The Preatures take down one of Tame Impala’s freshest numbers off soon-to-be-released third album, Currents. We’re envisioning future album reviews of this record to just be a series of fire emoji, so this was a very impressive W by the classic rock revivalists from Sydney. “Somebody’s Talking” will go head-to-head against “Molasses” by Hiatus Kaiyote. HK and their sweet, sweet neo-soul made it out of the first round with a buzzer beater against Taxidermy Hall but was able to take care of Courtney Barnett without too much trouble.
It’s going to be a hell of a couple matchups. Grab your popcorn.
