Rounding out the sixteen songs in the Oceania bracket of this year’s Idle Time Tune Tournament are the tracks featured in these four matchups.
“Eventually” is a single off Tame Impala’s third LP, Currents. It faces competition from the oldest (and arguably baddest) dude in the bracket: Nick Cave. “Jubilee Street” was part of the Bad Seeds’ fifteenth studio album, Push the Sky Away, released in 2013.
A couple Syndeysiders (I looked it up) tipoff on the dancefloor with singles from their respective debut albums. The Preatures and “Somebody’s Talking” from last year’s Blue Planet Eyes versus Jagwar Ma and “Uncertainty” from 2013’s Howlin’.
Courtney Barnett has plans for that spare half-million in “Depreston,” from her 2015 debut album. She takes on the “eccentric and reclusive” musician* from New Zealand, Lord Echo, and the “Bohemian Idol” song from 2013’s Curiosities.
*that’s from his Facebook page. Can you self-label as reclusive, or even eccentric, on your own site?
Finally, the last two combatants from down under. Hiatus Kaiyote showcase their jazzy neo-soul with brand new “Molasses” from Choose Your Weapon. Rob Dickens, aka Taxidermy Hall, is a fellow Melburnian (looked this one up too) by way of NZ. His “Cinematic Stewardess” single was released in 2014.
