It’s finally here; the Championship round! In June we launched the very first Idle Time Tune Tournament, and I have to say, it’s been a rousing success, with plenty of drama and spectacle. We’ve had big upsets, come-from-behind victories, and some truly great match-ups.
MH has already commented on his busted bracket. Mine doesn’t look too much better, but I did have Chet Faker advancing to the Final Four ahead of Hiatus Kaiyote. My prediction in California was bounced in the second round. That doesn’t bother me in the slightest, of course, as I’m very excited to see locals The Y Axes representing our home state.
The left side of the bracket looks nothing like my pre-tournament prognostication, however…

The Decemberists – What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World
There were three albums by veteran do-no-wrong bands that I had been anxious to hear in the year’s first half. But among releases by Hot Chip, Best Coast, and The Decemberists, What a Terrible World is the one that has been getting the most love on my turntable. “Make You Better” was an excellent first single, but, for me, nothing says twenty-fifteen like “A Beginning Song.”
“Yeah, but… that Knife song is kinda long.” – an anonymous voter explaining her vote for Jens Lekman.
“The Moonbabies can’t be stopped.” – MH predicting a blowout over Little Dragon (and maybe much more).

The Sweet Sixteen round of Idle Time’s 2015 Tune Tournament opens in Scandinavia. Not surprisingly, all four songs vying for regional supremacy hail from the same Nordic epicenter of pop perfection. Yes, it helped that two-thirds of the bracket was Swedish. And there might have been a slight bias in the seeding.
The first great upset in the 2015 Tune Tournament happened in the Scandinavia bracket when 14th-ranked Little Dragon took out the triple-headed Nordic threat of Röyksopp & Robyn. “Paris” took 85% of the votes and now matches up against jj, whose “All White Everything” had a similarly impressive 77% victory over First Aid Kit.Continue reading 2015 TUNE TOURNEY: More Scandinavia Round 2 Matchups!

It’s a Nordic double-team as Swedish singer Robyn and Norwegian duo Röyksopp team up with “Every Little Thing,” from their latest collaboration Do It Again. The tune is up against Idle Time-favorite Little Dragon and “Paris,” off their latest LP, Nabuma Rubberband.
